U-Connect is committed to protecting the privacy of our users. We want to provide a safe and secure user experience. We will do our best to ensure that information submitted by you remains private and is used only for the purposes set forth in this privacy commitment. The following reflects our commitment to you. All data is collected, handled and secured in accordance with the European General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). U-Connect, registered at Burgemeester Haspelslaan 21, 1181 NB Amstelveen, is the controller of the processing of your personal data as described in this privacy policy.

The personal data that we collect can be divided into two categories: data that we gather through the use of our website for the purpose of website analysis and cookies, and data that we gather for the purpose of our processes to assist you in finding a project.

Website analytics and cookies

Cookies

A cookie is a piece of data stored on the user's hard drive containing information about the user. Usage of a cookie while on our site is in no way linked to any personally identifiable information. Once the user closes their browser, the cookie simply terminates. For example, by setting a cookie on our site, the user does not have to log in more than once, thereby saving time while on our site. General Information Disclosure and Security

We do not disclose information about your individual visits to u-connect.nl. Personal information which you provide will be shared, where necessary, with government institutions, audit authorities, etc. Personal information which you provide may also be shared with our external partners, such as our software and ICT providers, to support our services. To make sure your personal information is protected as much as possible we also have signed data processing agreements with our external partners. U-Connect cannot be held responsible for the privacy statement of other websites linked to U-Connect.

U-Connect takes every precaution to protect user information. Your information is protected both online and offline when you submit sensitive information via the website. While we use encryption to protect sensitive information online, we also do everything in our power to protect user information offline. Access to all our user information, not just sensitive information, is restricted in our offices. Only employees who need information to perform a specific job are granted access to personally identifiable information.

Registration and finding a project

By signing up and submitting your personal details on the U-Connect website and platform, you agree that you permit U-Connect to use your information to match you to a suitable project. For this purpose we may use your work experience and your personal information.

When you register on our platform, we collect data as part of the specific process to help you find a project. The data is as follows:

  • Name
  • E-mail address
  • Telephone number
  • Address
  • Education details, employment history, current project and any other information that you provide to us and is relevant for a specific project, such as your relevant skills and experience
  • Hourly rate
  • KVK number
  • VAT number
  • Eligibility to work as a freelancer in the Netherlands

We guarantee that your details will not be sent to third parties without your prior consent.

Every year we will ask whether you still want to remain registered with U-Connect. If you request your personal data to be removed from our database, or if you do not respond, we will delete your data within 3 months.

Project via U-Connect

If you find a project via U-Connect, we will request additional documentation and information that is necessary for your file. This includes:

  • A copy of the personal identification document (ID)
  • A copy of the Chamber of Commerce (KVK) registration (this needs to be valid for at least 3 more months at the time of the check)
  • A copy of the work permit (if applicable)

These documents must be checked by U-Connect prior to you starting an assignment. After verification, the ID and work permit copies will be deleted.

Why must U-Connect check my documents?

We are required by law to confirm the identity and nationality of all our freelancers and verify your right to work in the Netherlands before you start on an assignment.

To comply with the legal requirements we will need to keep a copy of the following information for administration.

  • Date of birth
  • Nationality
  • Initials
  • Document numbers of the aforementioned documents
  • Expiry date of the aforementioned documents

Your data protection rights

As a freelancer you have the right to:

  • Transparent information
  • Information about data processing
  • Request and receive access to all data related to your personal information
  • Rectification (correction)
  • Data portability - Receive the personal data which you have provided us via the forms, in a structured, commonly used and machine-readable format
  • Be removed from our database*

We will handle your request to be removed with special care to ensure that your rights can be exercised effectively. We may request proof of identity to ensure that your personal data remains private and is shared with you alone. Please be aware that, in particular cases (for instance, due to legal requirements) we may not be able to make your request effective right away. In any case, within one month of your request, we will inform you of the actions taken.

*By law, personal information of freelancers who have found a project via U-Connect cannot be removed from our database for two years after their project has ended. Certain data may be kept longer if a legal minimum retention period applies.

We are committed to ensuring that your information is secure. We will ensure that all personal information supplied is held securely in accordance with the GDPR. In order to prevent loss of personal data or unauthorized access or disclosure, we have put appropriate technical and organizational measures in place to safeguard and secure the information we process. Only employees who need information to perform a specific job are granted access to personally identifiable information. In case of a data breach, we will report it to the Dutch Data Protection Authority and inform you.
